American Exceptionalism: Reality or Myth?

I believe it is reality and has been since the days of the pilgrims. Incredibly it is under attack once again by the ill educated elites from our East Coast universities, those Americans that are always anti-American, because of their perceived injustice that they suffered at the hands of their fellow American citizens and the American republic. Very liberal news media and progressive radio talk show host that proliferate on our on our airways with their evil exaggerations. The twisting of the facts, and they're outright lies, and aggressive attack upon America's exceptionalism, and the American way of life must be counter balance by those of us that still believe this is the greatest country in the history of the world. In order to prevail in that truthful attack, we must have the knowledge, the facts, the history and a strong belief in America's exceptionalism.

I believe America's exceptionalism was started before there was a United States of America, John Winthrop, a Puritan leader viewed the Puritans journey to the New World, as a divine mission famously described the Massachusetts Bay colony as a shining city upon a hill, suggesting that the colony was to be a model of moral and social excellence for the world to emulate. America's exceptionalism is a concept deeply embedded in the national psyche of the United States. It refers to the belief that America holds a unique place and role in the history of the world because of our distinct set of ideals and principles that set us apart from all the other nations on this planet.

American exceptionalism was solidified in the citizens of the United States of America during the time of the revolutionary war. Our founding fathers articulated, a view of a new nation based on democratic principles, individual liberty, freedom of religion, and equality. The declaration of independence and the constitution in shined those ideas setting the United States apart from the monarchical and autocratic nations of Europe. Our land of liberty and fortress of freedom demonstrated each and every day after the revolutionary war, the uniqueness goodness and greatness of this land of the pilgrims pride.

We rewrote the great mistake of our founding fathers less than 80 years after it occurred with the abolishment of slavery. It took the great courage of Abraham Lincoln and a very, very bloody civil war to do it, but we did it. It took great exceptionalism for us that is spelled United States of America, to recognize the error of our ways and discard the sin of slavery, demonstrating once again our exceptionalism and our uniqueness.

Our exceptionalism gave us the vision, courage, confidence, and determination to spread this land of the free because of the brave from the Atlantic to the pacific, thereby creating sufficient land to build a great nation under God, a nation that would become the lighthouse for the rest of the world to be guided by.

Our exceptionalism gave us the spirit to fight the Spanish American war and bring democracy, freedom, and independence to the Philippines and Cuba. That spirit also gave us the strength to drive the last European colonial power out of the western hemisphere by implementing the Monroe doctrine completely.

And we came to the rescue of our fellow Democratic countries from the totalitarian nations of Europe, in the first world war. Thereby becoming a leader of the Democratic nations of the world unfortunately it was a position we chose to turn down. I am afraid to say that if we had accepted that position, there may not have been a second world war. But we prefer to build our nation domestically by developing the most powerful economy in the world, by bringing economic wealth, and economic development to millions and millions of Americans, this enable millions and millions of Americans to gain greater independence and democracy for themselves and their families.

This was not a perfect Democratic republic when it was founded, but because of the exceptional, hard-working, forward, thinking Americans we have gotten closer and closer to it each day week month and year. American exceptionalism is what has driven us in the great quest to have a perfect democracy and republic.

It was American exceptionalism that led ourselves and the rest of the world out of the great depression. And it was American exceptionalism that built the planes, tanks, trucks, ships for our allies and ourselves and supplied a great deal of the manpower to defeat Nazi Germany and imperial Japan. And this time we accepted the leadership of the free world and lead the world in the Cold War to victory thereby giving millions and millions more freedom, democracy, and economic growth.

It has also been American exceptionalism that has led the world in the development of science, education, healthcare, democratic elections, and free speech. Because of all of these great advances for mankind, we must turn back those who wish to destroy American exceptionalism. This can only be done by Americans that still believe America is still the last best hope of the world and American exceptionalism is still by far the best vehicle to make this happen.
