Atlas Data License and Source Rights

Commercial and noncommercial reuse of American Optimists’ original Atlas contributions is welcome under CC BY 4.0. Third-party material keeps its own terms.

The license grant

American Optimists makes its original contributions to the Election Atlas research datasets and ballot-measure guide available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license, to the extent American Optimists holds copyright or applicable database rights in those contributions.

This grant covers the Atlas’s original explanatory material, annotations, and original selection or arrangement of the covered datasets, and any rights American Optimists holds in its own model outputs. It permits sharing and adaptation for commercial and noncommercial purposes under CC BY 4.0. It does not assert that every fact, calculation, or AI-generated passage is copyrightable.

How to give credit

When the license applies, credit American Optimists, link to the Atlas and CC BY 4.0, retain applicable notices, and indicate modifications. A suggested citation is:

American Optimists, Election Atlas 2026, snapshot [snapshot ID], accessed [date]. Atlas-owned contributions licensed under CC BY 4.0. Changes: [describe, if any].

Third-party sources

Third-party datasets, polling publications, market data, official source documents, quoted text, and other attributed third-party material are excluded from this grant. Their applicable licenses, notices, and other rights remain in effect. Follow the source references for those materials. An absent or unverified license entry does not constitute permission from American Optimists to use third-party rights.

Source references are included in the Atlas source manifest and ballot-guide data and sources. These references identify provenance; they are not a claim that every upstream item has an open license.

Public-domain material

Public-domain material and uses permitted by applicable legal exceptions remain unrestricted by this notice. Credit for those uses is appreciated, but this license does not create an attribution requirement where no licensed right applies.

Other rights and limitations

This data license does not cover the website’s software, logos, or trademarks. Attribution must not imply endorsement by American Optimists or an upstream source. The licensed material is provided without warranties, as described in CC BY 4.0. Experimental model estimates are not guarantees or official election results.

The covered collections are the Election Atlas 2026 research snapshot and the 2026 statewide ballot-measure guide, within the scope above. This notice does not replace the CC BY 4.0 legal code or grant rights in excluded material.
